Description

Baked Honey Mustard Tofu Tenders are a delicious and easy plant-based meal featuring crispy, golden tofu strips coated in a sweet and tangy honey mustard glaze. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings, this recipe offers a wholesome, flavorful option that’s sure to please any crowd.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu and Coating

  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and sliced into 1-inch strips
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Honey Mustard Glaze

  • 3 tablespoons natural mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey (natural)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (natural)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture, which helps in achieving that crispy texture. Slice the tofu into evenly sized strips about 1 inch wide for perfect tenders.
  2. Make the Honey Mustard Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together mustard (natural), honey (natural), vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), apple cider vinegar (natural), garlic powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir in the natural gelling agent to ensure the glaze coats the tofu beautifully.
  3. Coat the Tofu Tenders: Lightly brush or dip each tofu strip in olive oil first, then generously coat in whole wheat breadcrumbs mixed with a little paprika, salt, and pepper. This doubles down on crunch and color.
  4. Bake the Tofu: Arrange the coated tofu tenders on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even crisping on all sides.
  5. Glaze and Finish Baking: Brush the honey mustard glaze all over the tenders and return to the oven for another 5-7 minutes. This final step caramelizes the glaze, creating a sticky, flavorful coating.

Notes

  • Press your tofu well to remove moisture for better crispiness.
  • Slice the tofu evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Use a natural gelling agent to help the glaze stick and achieve a glossy finish.
  • Flip the tenders halfway through baking to promote even browning.
  • Let the tenders rest slightly before serving to lock in texture.
