Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup plant-based dairy milk, lukewarm
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup (natural)
  • ¼ cup plant-based butter, melted
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (natural)

Filling Ingredients

  • ½ cup plant-based butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tsp natural gelling agent

Glaze Ingredients (Optional)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp plant-based dairy milk
  • or 2 tbsp grape juice (natural) reduction

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the plant-based dairy milk until lukewarm. In a small bowl, mix the milk with active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon maple syrup (natural). Let it foam for about 10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add the yeast mixture, melted plant-based butter, and vanilla extract (natural). Knead the mixture until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
  2. Create the Filling: While the dough rises, mix softened plant-based butter with brown sugar, ground cinnamon, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), and natural gelling agent. Stir until well combined to form a sticky, cohesive filling.
  3. Assemble the Buns: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly across the dough. Roll up tightly from the long edge, then slice into 1.5 inch thick pieces. Place the rolls on a lined baking tray with space between each. Cover loosely and let them rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cinnamon buns for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and puffed. The warm, sweet aroma will fill your kitchen.
  5. Add the Finishing Touch: After baking, drizzle a glaze made from powdered sugar and plant-based dairy milk or use a grape juice (natural) reduction for extra sweetness and shine. Serve the buns warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast for best rise and fluffiness.
  • Warm plant-based dairy milk helps activate the yeast effectively.
  • Allow the dough to rise fully for a soft texture.
  • Roll the dough tightly to prevent filling leakage.
  • Rotate baking trays halfway through baking to ensure even browning.
  • Substitute maple syrup (natural) with agave nectar (natural) or date syrup (natural) if desired.
  • Omit nuts in the filling and topping to keep buns nut-free.
  • Dough can be prepared the night before and refrigerated, then brought to room temperature before rising.
