Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm plant-based milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Pinch of sugar (for yeast activation)

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp natural cinnamon spice flavoring
  • Optional Add-ins: chopped walnuts or pecans, dried cranberries or raisins, finely chopped dark plant-based chocolate or plant-based chocolate chips, pinch of cardamom or nutmeg

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plant-based cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1 tsp natural vanilla extract
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp natural gelling agent

Additional Flavor

  • 1 tsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine warm plant-based milk with active dry yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy, then mix in flour, softened plant-based butter, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  2. Roll Out and Add the Filling: Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread softened plant-based butter evenly over the surface, then sprinkle generously with brown sugar and natural cinnamon spice flavoring. Add any optional mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit evenly over the surface.
  3. Shape and Cut the Rolls: Carefully roll the dough into a tight log starting from the longer edge. Use a sharp knife or dental floss to cut the log into even slices about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Arrange the rolls closely in a greased baking dish to allow for expansion.
  4. Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a clean cloth and let them rise again until puffy, approximately 30 to 45 minutes. This final rise ensures soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top. Avoid overbaking to keep the rolls moist and tender.
  6. Frost and Serve: While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting by mixing plant-based cream cheese, softened plant-based butter, natural vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and natural gelling agent to a creamy consistency. Spread the frosting generously over the warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use warm plant-based milk, not hot, to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Apply filling evenly and avoid overfilling to prevent spillage during baking.
  • Use dental floss or a sharp serrated knife for clean, even cuts of the rolled dough.
  • Ensure plant-based butter and cream cheese are softened before making frosting to avoid lumps.
  • Use fresh natural cinnamon spice flavoring for best taste.
  • Store leftover cinnamon rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days to maintain softness and flavor.
  • Freeze individual rolls wrapped tightly in plastic wrap for up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
  • Reheat rolls in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or in a low-temperature oven to restore softness and frosting texture.
