Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 4 slices smoked turkey bacon
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (natural)
  • 1 cup canned beans, drained and rinsed (black beans, kidney beans, or pinto beans)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1/2 cup plant-based cheese, shredded (plant-based)
  • 1 tsp natural gelling agent (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Smoked Turkey Bacon: In a large pot over medium heat, brown the smoked turkey bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pot for cooking the aromatics.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onions, garlic, and bell peppers to the pot. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened and fragrant.
  3. Brown the Ground Turkey: Add the ground turkey to the pot with the sautéed vegetables. Cook thoroughly, breaking the meat into small pieces with a spatula for even cooking and texture.
  4. Add Spices and Flavorings: Sprinkle chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and pepper over the turkey and vegetables. Stir well to coat and cook briefly to release the spices’ aromas.
  5. Pour in Liquids and Simmer: Stir in the diced tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, beans, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend flavors and thicken the chili.
  6. Finish with Bacon and Cheese: Stir the crispy smoked turkey bacon back into the chili. Just before serving, sprinkle plant-based cheese on top and allow it to melt for a creamy finish.

Notes

  • Take your time browning the turkey well for enhanced flavor.
  • Use freshly ground spices for a vibrant and bold chili taste.
  • Adjust chili thickness by simmering longer or adding a splash of water if needed.
  • For a creamier texture, stir in a teaspoon of plant-based cheese right before serving.
  • Let the chili rest for at least 10 minutes after cooking to allow flavors to harmonize.
