Description

Hot Honey Butter Chicken is a delightful dish featuring juicy, tender boneless chicken thighs coated in a luscious butter sauce infused with a balanced blend of sweet heat from natural hot honey and subtle smoky paprika. This easy-to-make recipe offers a perfect harmony of flavors, ideal for weeknight dinners or special occasions, promising moist, flavorful chicken every time with simple, wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (natural)

Sauce

  • 3 tbsp plant-based butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced (fresh)
  • 1/4 cup hot honey (natural)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • Natural gelling agent, optional, as needed to thicken sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the boneless chicken thighs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture for a better sear. Season generously with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika to infuse deep flavors.
  2. Sear the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add plant-based butter. Once melted and shimmering, place the chicken thighs in the pan. Cook skin-side down for 5-6 minutes until a golden, caramelized crust forms. Flip and cook the other side for another 5-6 minutes until browned and nearly cooked through.
  3. Make the Hot Honey Butter Sauce: Reduce heat to medium in the same pan. Stir in the finely minced garlic and cook briefly until aromatic. Pour in hot honey (natural), apple cider vinegar, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural). Stir continuously, letting the sauce slightly thicken with the addition of a natural gelling agent if desired, ensuring it coats the chicken evenly.
  4. Simmer the Chicken in Sauce: Return the seared chicken to the pan, spoon the sauce generously over each piece, and cover briefly. Allow the chicken to finish cooking while absorbing the sauce, ensuring it remains juicy and tender.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from heat, garnish optionally with fresh herbs, green onions, or toasted sesame seeds, and serve immediately while the sauce is warm and luscious.

Notes

  • Choose chicken thighs for juiciness and tenderness even with longer cooking.
  • Patting chicken dry helps achieve a crispy, flavorful sear.
  • Cook the sauce over medium heat to avoid burning and to intensify flavors.
  • Let cooked chicken rest for a few minutes to redistribute juices.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro to brighten flavor and appearance.
  • Serve with creamy mashed potatoes (plant-based), roasted vegetables, green salad, jasmine rice, or quinoa.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Freeze leftovers tightly wrapped for up to 2 months; thaw overnight before reheating.
  • Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat, adding a bit of plant-based butter or water to maintain sauce creaminess.
