Enjoy soft and fluffy Maple Rolls infused with warm cinnamon and nutmeg spices, sweetened naturally with maple syrup (natural). These tender, plant-based rolls offer a comforting blend of flavors perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack, easily customizable to suit your taste preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm plant-based milk (about 100°F / 38°C)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp natural maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (natural)
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt

Filling

  • 1/3 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup natural maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (natural)
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

Maple Glaze

  • 1/4 cup natural maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp plant-based butter
  • 1/2 tsp natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the plant-based milk to just under body temperature (about 100°F / 38°C). Stir in the active dry yeast, 1 tablespoon of natural maple syrup, and a pinch of brown sugar (natural). Let it sit until bubbly and proofed. In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, salt, and melted plant-based butter. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until the dough begins to form. Knead on a floured surface gently until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a warm spot and let it rise until it doubles in size.
  2. Make the Filling: While the dough is rising, combine the softened plant-based butter, natural maple syrup, brown sugar (natural), vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg in a bowl. Mix well to create a warm and sweet filling.
  3. Roll and Fill: After the dough has doubled, gently punch it down to release air. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 16×12 inches. Evenly spread the maple-spiced filling over the dough, covering every inch. Carefully roll the dough up tightly along the long edge and slice into even rolls about 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick.
  4. Final Rise and Bake: Place the sliced rolls into a greased baking dish, leaving space between each for expansion. Cover with a clean towel and allow to rise again until puffy and fluffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), then bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown with a caramelized top and fully baked through.
  5. Prepare the Maple Glaze: In a small saucepan, gently heat natural maple syrup, plant-based butter, and natural gelling agent until smooth and spreadable. Drizzle the warm glaze generously over the freshly baked rolls for a sticky, sweet finish.

Notes

  • Ensure all wet ingredients are warm but not hot to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Use just enough flour on your work surface to prevent sticking, avoiding over-flouring for a soft dough.
  • Allow adequate time for both rising stages to achieve light, fluffy rolls.
  • Freshly ground cinnamon and nutmeg enhance the flavor of the filling for the best taste.
  • Brush rolls with plant-based butter immediately after baking to keep the crust tender and shiny.
  • Apply maple glaze while rolls are still warm to allow it to melt in perfectly.
