Discover a comforting and easy plant-based Salisbury Steak recipe with tender patties and a rich mushroom gravy. Ready in under 40 minutes, this savory dish combines simple ingredients for a quick, satisfying dinner perfect for any day you want a cozy meal with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale

Patties

  • 1 lb plant-based ground beef substitute
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup plant-based milk
  • 1/2 cup plant-based breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tsp onion powder (natural)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (natural)

Mushroom Gravy

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup grape juice
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp natural gelling agent
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper (natural), to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the plant-based ground beef substitute, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, plant-based milk, plant-based breadcrumbs, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), onion powder (natural), and black pepper (natural). Mix gently until just combined, then form the mixture into oval-shaped patties about the size of your palm.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until browned and firm. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside temporarily.
  3. Make the Mushroom Gravy: In the same skillet, add more olive oil if needed. Sauté the sliced mushrooms and chopped onions until soft and golden. Stir in grape juice and vegetable broth, scraping any flavorful bits off the bottom of the pan. Whisk in the natural gelling agent to thicken the sauce gently. Season with salt, black pepper (natural), and additional vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural) to taste.
  4. Finish Cooking: Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the mushroom gravy generously over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld and the patties absorb the sauce.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help patties hold together and cook evenly.
  • Do not overmix the patty mixture to maintain a tender, juicy texture.
  • Brown patties well to lock in flavor and improve texture.
  • Adjust the sauce thickness by adding the natural gelling agent gradually.
  • Let the finished dish rest covered off the heat to develop rich flavors further.
